My wife and I ate at Blue Corn this evening and we both feel absolutely violated by what could be the worst margarita ever. We ordered the Jumbo Gold at $8.50 and received a big heaping glass full of nasty commercial grade sours mix with a splash of tequila. Two hours later my stomach is still not right. My wife finished about 20% of hers and left the rest on the table...the waitress said nothing. How can you possibly think your diners are enjoying themselves when they leave two $8 drinks on the table? The food was nothing special. I ordered the stuffed poblanos which came soggy, probably microwaved, certainly frozen at some point. The service was slightly better than awful...you might consider finding servers that enjoy smiling and possibly even people.

My experience at the Blue Corn Cafe was less than what I would expect from any restuarant. They refused to serve me a glass of water to drink with my meal when I requested it. They said the best they could do was to give me a glass with ice in it and pointed me to the bathroom so I could fill my own glass up. When I go to a restaurant, it is to be served. Clearly, if I wished to get up in the middle of my meal and conversation to serve myself, I would have stayed at home. Also, I don't want to be bringing stuff that is going to be sitting on my dinner table to the bathroom and back. That's just gross! I don't know how this practice is allowed at this restaurant and how it is not a health code violation. But on a brighter note, the food was pretty good.
Cons: Service

Blue Corn is a good choice for moderate priced food which seems increasingly hard to find unless one enjoys eating at chain restaurants. However, due to the current drought in the area the restaurant refuses to serve tap water. I find this distasteful and a cheap shot at a restaurant trying to make money selling bottled water. They could instead add a note to the menu-tap water will just be served on request. I for one won't return to Blue Corn given their new water policy.

Blue Corn Cafe is located in a very cute area of Durham, which pairs a small town feel with an almost boutique-y one. The restaurant used to be quite small but has recently expanded. The food is delicious and fresh, and the salsa is near-addictive. Their vegetarian options are great - I highly recommend their Green Enchiladas!

Great live jazz on Tuesdays nights and tasty margaritas. Most waiters are duke students so i would tip nicely (unless you are a UNC fan).
Pros: Private Dining Room, Service, Authentic
Cons: Ambience

I've gone about four times and always thought that the food and service were good. Not great but good. I usually get the first chicken dish which I think has mango and some other items on top with beans and mashed potatoes. Good but I decided to go with the taco salad. Not bad but nothing to write about. I like supporting local restaurants and it's definitely a place to check out. The prices are okay.
Pros: A lot of choices of entrees
Cons: Parking can sometimes be a problem

Blue Corn was pathetic last night. It was my first time, after hearing good things about it. The waitress was laughably inept and uninterested. The food extremely so-so. I had chicken with mango salsa - a huge portion, but oversalted, dry and chewy. There was a side of black beans and corn that was boring and overcooked. The only saving grace was a tasty margarita. I won't be back.

I visited this spot on my first date! It was the most memorable meal for me due to the great service and great food. I had the best Mahi Mahi ever with a beautiful presentation and delicious cocktails! If you are looking for a casual place with great food that will impress a date, this is the place for you!

After living in Miami for 20 years, you can spot good latin food. The mix here is unique in that they had Cuban and mexican food. They served high quality Tortia Chips and a very good Salsa and yet you could oder some authentic Cuban food OR Mexican. I tried a combo of both and was very satisfied. The price was what you would expect for that area and the portions were good. The quality was excellent. the only minus for them is the atmosphere but considering how small the place is its understandable. It s a good pick, I would return.
Pros: Quality, Selection, Service
Cons: Atmosphere

Nice variety of latin food--a large selection of vegetarian options that aren't simply cheese and tortilla. a great place if you are feeling like latin food, but don't want simply mexican fare. The ambience of the restaurant leaves a little to be desired, but the food is worth it.
Pros: good location, diverse selection
Cons: poor ambience
