Yep, it's smokey and maybe Jack (the owner) will get new smoke machines one day. He did recover the pool tables with simones 860 about 6 months ago, but they get a lot of use. (it is a bar, not a pool hall) The food is great, in fact the hamburger may be one of the best in town. Most of the bartenders have been there for years so by the time you come around the corner your beer is on the bar. Sharky's has a great set of "regulars" who, most of the time are invariably there. THey have APA pool leagues, Dart Leagues and a card night and during football season you can barely get in there. They've got two large screens plus at least 8 othere TV's and another 2 if you're sitting at the bar. I'm sure the Greenroom is a fine establishment, however they do not open until 5pm. Sharky's is open for lunch. I'm not a smoker and can understand the "too smokey" review, but I've been around and this is one of, if not the finest local bar (dive) that I've had the pleasure to find. BD

Pros: Great food, good folks.

Cons: too smokey

I expect bars to be smoky, but this place took it to a new level. It was a weekday night, and the place was half empty, so I don't know how bad the smoke gets on weekends. If you are a smoker, than obviously this is not a big deal. The pool tables were not the nicest, with worn mats and small tears. Our table seemed slightly sloped as well, but this is hard to tell. I think this is due to the floor, which is definitely NOT level. I didn't try the food, but unless you like to smoke while you eat, I wouldn't recommend it. Also, there is limited parking out front and three spaces are reserved for the adjacent gas station. I highly recommend the Green Room in Durham if you get a chance. It is larger and the tables are much nicer.

Pros: more pool tables than a downtown bar

Cons: very smoky, limited parking, better pool halls elsewhere

You would not expect this quality of food from a pool hall. I have had several things on the menu and have not been disappointed yet. In fact, I've been constantly amazed because each dish has been as good as the one before. It's not that it's just above average for this type of establishment...it's great food, on par with many of the areas "mainstream" restaurants. I've also nominated them for french fries. They are the big fat steak fries...yum!!

Pros: great staff, fast service, variety in food
