my bf and and i go a couple nights out the week cuz its close to home and work. the food and drinks are great. but when we go and sit down it takes the staff at least 15mins to notice that were there. the bartenders walk like zombies (so slow)...love the place but the waitress's need to wake up and stop actin like ding-dongs and pay attention.

Pros: cheap,stays open late

Cons: slow service!(terrible)!!!!!

Went there the other day to watch football on the first day of the NFL. Great specials. Good service. LOADS of TV's. Had a lot of fun with my buddies & meet a good looking girl. Wings are best I've had since I left NY.

Pros: Lots of TV's, Good food, Good service

I discovered Sammy's when I moved to Avent Ferry Road to be close to my job. It is awesome. The food is much better than you're average bar food. The wings are great & the quesadillas are one of my favorites. I had an excellent server who was knowledgable and fast with my drink order & food. I play trivia there on Tuesday nights with a group of friends & we have a blast. The bartenders are very polite and seem to work together to get the drinks out quickly. I also ordered from Raleigh Take-out and the order was hot & the exact thing I ordered so I'm not sure what the other reviewer was talking about. I believe this place has been around for more than five years and that says a lot for a restaurant these days. I look forward to hanging out at Sammy's for years to come. The deck is an awesome place to go to if you're with a large group or small. Go State!

Pros: Great food, service & prices

This place is awesome. I read some of the reviews here and they don't do this place justice, most of them are several years old. I have been going to Sammy's for quite a while and the service has always been great, and the bartenders are some of the best in Raleigh. I'm not sure what some of these people (or maybe its all the same person) did to the bartenders to have them yell at them but that has never been my experience. If you are trying to watch a game or many games, there really is no other place to be. They have close to 50 TV's now, of which they seem to routinely change out (they just installed all flat panels behind the bar and on some walls I think). You can watch more than one game, listen to all of them via these little speaker boxes they have (which NO OTHER PLACE HAS), and even do this on the deck, which they just expanded. Like I said, if you are going to watch more than one game (read college/nfl football), then you want to give Sammy's a try. The food there is great too, its bar food, wings and pizza and such, nothing gormet, but its a sports bar I'm not really sure what you are supposed to expect. As far as the wings go they are close to the best I have ever had, but honestly on game day the most important thing is the beer, which seems to flow nice and cheaply. I've been there a few times at night as well, and I was suprised that there is quite a nice night scene there as well. Overall this is definitely a place worth going to.

Pros: Great Atmosphere, Good Service, Amazing Patio

I have been going to Sammy's for four years now. My friends & I love hanging out there. The food is great & every bartender I've dealt with has been polite. The servers do a good job - just nice girls. Plus the management seems to update things regularly. The last time I went in I noticed 6 new tv's at the bar. John Dupree is great on Friday nights. Plus, every day there's a good drink special. If you want to go somewhere with friends to hang out & don't want the trendy glenwood scene - Sammys is your place.

Pros: Best selection of food and drinks at great prices, 7 days a week

Cons: Bathrooms could be nicer

How is this place still open? In it's hayday it was a great place to drink a beer on the patio and catch the game, now it's a dirty bar with subpar food and crappy service. I used to love the place in college but everytime I try to give it another change, I'm always disappointed. I usually try to support locally owned business but unlike corporate chains, if you make a complaint you out luck if management doesn't care. Sammy's could really care less about it's customers. Atleast that is how I've felt anytime I 've had an issue. I've attempted to order from them through Raleigh Takeout (I actually love their chicken fingers so that's what has brought me back in the past) Of the two times I've ordered through Raleigh Takeout my order has yet to be correct. It's just part of the territory now. I expect to be disappointed. I doubt this place will make it another couple of years due to the way they treat customers... so maybe this is all a waste of breath, but with all of the great sports bars to choose from in Raleigh, I wouldn't waste my money at Sammy's.

Pros: location

Cons: dirty. slow service. indifferent management

If you want to be insulted or treated poorly, then I would highly recommend Sammy's. The bartenders are on a power trip therefore they do not care about the service that they bestow upon their bar patrons. They also need to brush up on their mix drink skills. If you do end up going to Sammys I would recommend sitting at a table instead of at the bar.

Cons: poor service, rude bartenders

The food is inconsistant, (one day the nachos are fresh and crisp, another they're soggy and stale), the waitstaff is pleasant but sloooow and easily confused (I ordered chili on my nachos and got chicken; I ordered unsweetened tea and got syrupy sweet, etc), the televisions are turned up wayyyy too loud (my ears are STILL ringing!), but if you add up the things that hard to put a finger on or describe, somehow Sammy's is still a nice place to gather with friends, hopefully if your not in a hurry or too picky whether or not your order is correct.

Pros: Atmosphere, Pleasant waitstaff, Good value

Cons: Slow, Messed up food orders

Sammy's is a cool hang out because they have good beer specials, ok bar food, and a lot of T.V.'s. However, they allow you to seat yourself but do not always acknoledge you with in five minutes. You have to search for your own napkins and ash trays most of the time and service is generally slow. If you ask if they have a Hefeweisen, as server may tell you "The closest we have to a Hefe is Guiness". (They have Hoegaarden). All in all if you are going to Sammy's to look at their waitstaff by all means they have some pretty girls there but if you are going for knowledgable good service that is efficient, you will get frustrated. Be careful when you sit on the patio a lot of the chairs are broken!!

Pros: good beer specials, A lot of T.V.s, nice patio

Cons: , slow service, unknowledgeable staff

Sammy's is a fun place to go with NTN triva, great burgers, excellent staff and always good beer specials. The only complaint I have is their appertizers are lacking and the wings are tiny. All in all though, it is a great place to hang out, watch a game, or just blow off some stem!

Pros: Beer Specials, good parking, Burgers

Cons: , wings, small, limited seating
