I stayed at the Brownstone Holiday Inn over four days in December of 2006 for a conference. I had many hotels to choose from and chose this one simply because this is where my conference was located. This was my first stay here. See my pros and cons below. Pros Good food Nice experience getting breakfast for room service and prompt Good television reception with large screen Nice desk for me to work on my computer Very spacious room Spacious bathroom Good cleaning service Front desk clerks were always very polite When I made a noise complaint at night, the front desk took care of it right away Large tub in bathroom Good experience with room service for breakfast each morning Easy check-in. I was able to check in at 10:00 am instead of 3:00 pm. Next to the YMCA Next to a park Main lobby area was very impressive looking Cons Very loud construction made it impossible to have peace during the day! Bulldozers were digging into the street right next to my room. Part of the street next to the hotel was closed due to construction. Ice machine on my floor was broken Noisy traffic going down the road outside my room Evenings were loud with kids running around and screaming outside Hotel is located in a busy, noisy part of town Balcony door would not open Several plugs in the room would not work Parking during the day was almost impossible due to so many conferences going on Vents rattled when I turned the heat on Non hotel guests walking everywhere outside through hotel grounds made me feel unsafe You can hear every sound in the hallways Very loud and clear when someone in a nearby room turns on their water Mattresses were very firm Dim lighting in room Bottom Line= This is an older hotel in one of the busiest parts of Raleigh. It is neither the best or the worst hotel you could stay at. I would not choose to stay here again because of the noise and traffic all around the hotel.
