Even after setting my base standard at "BBQ Restaurant in a Cary strip mall," I still cannot in good faith say many good things about Danny's. The banana pudding was pretty good, the texas toart tased like toast, which I like, the corn was decent too. However, the BBQ was severely lacking in taste and consistency, the hushpuppies were terrible, and I couldn't find any Texas Pete anywhere. Steer clear.

Pros: Fast service, decent deserts

Cons: Horrible BBQ, Horrible hushpuppies, rude service

We'll anybody see the Beard on the guy that handles the "cooked food "at the Ashville Ave location? It is ZZ-Top Calibre and I do not think with no him having no rubberbands, a net or any protection I will eat there again. No offense, but isn't that a health violation? The BBQ is OK, if you like the very strong artificial smoked flavor. It is a little overpowering and hides the natural pork flavor. In addition they offer no hot sauce except there own which in itself defeats the Eastern North Carolina Style by being to SAUCY. That being said, the vinigar bottle on the table is just plain vinigar and they provide Industrial Grade Ketchup, not name brand. Common Guy's it would take so little for you to get me to 3 or 4 stars, for Cary anyway. This place has a captive lunch following because they are across from Regency, it would not be there if it didn't.

I see several people have been upset by the service. I don't know if those experinces were in the Cary store or the RTP location. Don't let that stop you, it is rare. The place is not fancy, just a nice small town, family owned restaurant with very good BBQ. I've been going for 24 years, ever since I moved to Cary and I've never been dissatisfied with the lunch or dinner.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this restaurant. The place was filthy and the service was lousy. I spoke with the owner about these issues and he couldn't care less.

This restaurant came highly recommended, but will not be on my must haves. The food was OK. Nothing really to write home about. I'm from Texas, and I do not think this was Texas BBQ, even though the claims are there. The hush puppies were good! The potato salad was made with sour cream - yuck. The green beans were nothing spectacular either. Overall, this was just a place to eat if you're in the area and want a bbq sandwich - though would not go out of my way to go there.

Pros: OK food

Cons: OK food, location

We went to Danny's with friends that highly recommended it. I ordered ribs - I was almost done with the ribs when I noticed a steel staple sitting in the sauce on my ribs. I commented to the waiter regarding the staple and advised he might want to be sure it didn't happen to other customers that might not have noticed it (such as a child). He adivsed it could not happen because they did not use staples - well I didn't bring it with me and there it was! Upon checking out I mentioned it to the man behind the counter, who I think was the owner - he again stated it could not happen - no apology, no nothing! Needlessness to say I was quite put out and when I got home I wrote a letter to the company stating what had happend and how I was treated. I got no reply to my letter. In my way of thinking this is no way to run a business - I at least deserved a reply. My friends were embarrassed at the respond that I got and I will NEVER go there again and will NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. I appreciate the opportunity to express my disappointment in the handling of this situation.

I stumbled across this page and felt I needed to write this as I see others have had similar experiences. Soon after I heard of Danny's I went quite regularly until I had a run-in with a man behind the counter who I feel was the owner. My dad and I collect coins and for Christmas one year he gave me some Sakagawea (gold) dollar coins. On this busy lunch visit to Danny's everything was great and I went to the register to pay. I handed the lady 5 or 6 coins to pay for lunch and the man beside her barks out "I don't want those things." At first I was sort of confused and thought he might be joking because the statement seemed so out of place but the lady kind of stopped and didn't say anything. I gathered myself and said that my dad gave them to me for Christmas and his response was "Well take 'em back to your dad because I don't want' em!" At this point I'm getting mad but I was with a friend who gets embarrassed at public displays so I still tried to keep my cool. It went back and forth a few more times before I finally said that I was paying with these or not paying, handed them to the lady who gave me my change. All the while this guy is still mouthing off! To this day I kick myself for not flipping out in front of everybody in the restaurant over this treatment. We've all had good and bad experiences at restaurants and stores but this was far and away the worst I have ever been treated. I'm glad business is so good you can act like a school yard bully when interacting with your satisfied, paying customers. One more point. Through the whole exchange, he never looked me in the eye. Chump. I will continue to tell this story every chance I get in the hopes that people will find another restaurant where the owner appreciates the customers.

This afternoon my co-workers and I went to Danny's for lunch. While I was there I though I would buy and extra meal for dinner and use my new Citipass coupon book I purchased from the local school. I told the waitress I had the coupon and asked her if it was ok to get the extra meal to go and she said sure. When I went up to pay the owner was running the cash register not only told me I could not use the coupon, apparently he advertises to upport the school but does not honor them, but he acted as if I was trying to rip him off. He was so rude my co-wokers thought he was joking at first. He even told me I was lying when I said the waitress told me I could use it. I will never return to Danny's again.

Pros: BBQ is not bad

Cons: I make better myself and don't need the rude owner callin me a liar.
