I am completely blown away by all these "5 star reviews" Von Kekel has gotten. I had one of the worst experiences of my life at this salon. For starters, the staff was extremely rude in welcoming customers when they walk in. Then my hairstylist was late, which I actually didn't mind waiting a few minutes (which turned into almost 30), and on top of all that, my hair didn't turn out nearly the way I had explained which was a simple cut and layer style. If these stylists are trained "so well" how do they not understand the simplest of all cuts? I was embarresed to of had to pay the $60 for an awful haircut and bad experience. At least now I know, and I would never write a bad review unless it was a truely terrible experience. As for all the good reviews, I am completely convinced they were written by the employees of Von Kekel, especially the one who talks about "we all have our blissful days and our stressful days and to give the benefit of the doubt" excuse me, but when you are paying a fair amount of money for a haircut where customer service is everything, you can't just say "Oh we're just having a stressful day" That is NOT how a good business is run!!

Recently, I had my first visit to Von Kekel at North Hills. I was warmly and promptly greeted upon entering the salon by the receptionist. She asked if I would like a beverage. It was after 5:00 PM, so rationalized a nice glass of white wine. I was very impressed with the salon aesthetic. It was urban yet comfortable. My stylist, Meredith, was great! We had a nice chat to discuss what I was looking for before we began. I am thrilled with my color and cut. Meredith is a wonderful stylist and a very sweet girl. She also offered a manicure while my color processed, what a great idea. When I was checking out, I was asked if everything went well, and I, of course, told them it was just great. They rescheduled my next appt. and I was on my way. I will definitely recommend Von Kekel.

Pros: Beautiful salon, Friendly Staff and Great Stylists

Cons: Parking is a bit tough it seems

I would not recomend this salon to my worst enemy! I have had better service at SUPERCUTS. The staff was not only extremely rude, but I felt very rushed. All they're concerned with is getting their cusomers in and out as quickly as possible. This is not what I would expect from a "high end" salon.

Pros: the smell of the salon

I had the worst experience EVER getting a haircut at this place. Extremely rude customer service, did not understand the simple haircut I was going for. I was very uncomfortable and honestly worried about how my hair would come out. Half way through my haircut the stylist was interrupted by someone at the front desk telling her to hurry up, which she then half-way dried my hair and sent me on my way. I would expect that when I pay $60+ just for a haircut I should be getting good service, but unfortuately Von Kekel does'nt understand how important customer service is! I will NEVER in my life go back to this place. Absolutely HORRIBLE!

I have been going to Von Kekel for nearly 9 years. I love this salon/spa and would recommend it to anyone wanting a grand experience. The new beautiful salon at North Hills provides great service, inviting atmosphere and a broad selection of stylists to choose from although I have my favorites. The staff is thoroughly trained and must attend continuing education classes on a regular basis. The parking is a little difficult but not at the fault of Von Kekel, but worth the extra steps to get to the front door. As I read through the other reviews, I find it disappointing that people are so petty with their complaints. If you are late to an appointment, you SHOULD have to wait or be rescheduled. Can u be late for any other appointment and not pay the consequences? Any business will have its stressful days and its blissful days, we sometimes must give the "benefit of the doubt" and not be too judgemental. For the record, my only involvement with Von Kekel is a very satisfied client. I am NOT the owner nor an employee and for anyone to suggest otherwise would be utterly disrespectful.

I have recently moved to the area and I thought i was going to have a hard time finding a Hairstylist so my first thought was to look on the yellow pages and i found Von Kekel and I use the Aveda products so I called and the receptionist was very friendly and I asked for someone experienced and that knows how to do curly hair and the first thing she said was Maria is great with curly hair so I needed highlights and a cut and they put me with Maria. So When I went in to the salon I knew that it's a great salon everyone is nice and I felt very welcomed. Maria did my hair, she's great and I will defenetly come back to her. So I highly recommend her she's great and very friendly!

I have been a long time client of this salon that has been open for 10 years. I have always been treated with the utmost respect. My recent visit in I was asked to post a review on City search due to the fact they had some questionable negative reviews (basically any competitor can post a negative review to hinder any business). I have referred many clients and friends all of whom have been happy with both the salon and spa. It is unfortunate that most people do not post a review if they are completely satisfied. It is also unfortunate that this site does not filter reviews that are questionable/false. One would think this would be a more positive experience for advertisers and consumers. If Von Kekel had as many positive reviews as it does its thousands of continued clients the review site would not be able to support it. After all, it has been around for 10 years making people all over feel and look beautiful!

Pros: great locations, great stylists, great spa providers

I recently discovered Von Kekel at North Hills. A friend recommended the salon and Shawn specifically. My stylist of 5 years recently moved out of state, so I was frantically looking for a new stylist and salon to call home. I called to make an appointment with Shawn and was cordially asked who had sent me to Von Kekel. When I mentioned my friend's name the receptionist was familiar with her (which surprised me due to the number of clients they must see). The receptionist said Shawn would be happy to see me for my color and cut. I was able to make an appointment about 2 weeks out (just in time as my roots needed color badly). The staff was very personable upon my arrival, and Shawn greeted me promptly. We had a nice chat about my hair, and I felt at ease as Shawn began my service. The results were awesome! I was so pleased with my hair. The color looked so natural and shiny, and the cut was just what I wanted. On my next visit a few weeks later, I decided to try the spa at Von Kekel. Eleanor gave me a fabulous facial and brow wax. I did not want to leave! I will definitely be back.

Pros: Friendly, cordial staff, Prompt Service

Cons: Parking can be an issue, give yourself a little extra time

Just wanted to share my wonderful experience!! I am new to the Raleigh area and have been going to an Aveda salon for the past 10 years and won't go anywhere else. I found Von Kekel at North Hills, and I am hooked! It is everything I look for in an Aveda salon, and my standards are high! The front desk was very cordial, and my stylist was amazing. As I looked around the salon at the other guests 'dos, I was very impressed with what I saw! I felt comfortable leaving it up to my stylist on what would look best, and she did a fantastic job. Thanks so much to Von Kekel and Ashleigh! Highly Recommended!

Having just relocated to Raleigh, I was nervous about finding as good a salon as back home, but I found one BETTER!! Maria is a wonderful stylist. She is very nice, listens well, and most of all, an amazing hair stylist! Beautiful salon, and you are in Aveda heaven there. I am thrilled with my visit, and highly recommend the salon!

Pros: great haircut, Amazing Aveda selection

Cons: very bad lighting in hair-cutting area...too bright!
