My husband had been stop lost on his 2nd tour to Iraq, so needless to say, when I first saw previews for this movie I was overjoyed that someone was making a movie about this. The movie basically follows a group of soldiers through the last part of their tour to their redeployment back home and what happens to them. Most interestingly enough, the parts I found most unrealistic were the stop loss awol run the main character goes through... Though things he does and the emotions he experiences during his 'run' are very authentic. The people I found the most interesting to watch were the supporting characters just going through their re-depoyment. You see post traumatic stress rear its ugly head, Iraq flashbacks, drinking, relationships falling apart. The bond between the returning soldiers is amazingly strong and very difficult to explain...but I thought the movie did a great job showing how much they depend on each other and how their friends from back home just ask akward questions and don't really get what they went through together. There are scenes that were hauntingly familiar...the home made iraq movies that are sprinkled in short clips throughout the film were just like videos my husband and his friends have made, the friend who just can't handle it when he finds himself out of the military, the other that picks the military over his fiance, all things we have watched and experienced happen around us. As a movie, the acting was incredible, the story very real and engaging, and the characters very likeable (even when they are doing stupid things). Personally I hope people will go because they still care what happens to their soldiers, but if you just want a good movie, I think this delivers for those audiences as well.

Pros: Realistic look at soldier bonds and redeployment emotions

Cons: the whole AWOL part of the story was a bit unrealistic

I didn't enjoy watching this movie because it makes the ARMY as a whole look spine-less. Great actors! Weak story line...
