I love the coziness of this place. The outdoor seating is great, even though all the tables are all together it still has a private feel to it, that is always nice. The staff are very nice and friendly. Its a very fun and relaxing place to go. We went on a saturday night and were seated promptly and our service was very fast, we were very pleased with that.

Pros: The outdoor seating, and very friendly staff

The breakfast is the best I have ever had on Sunday. Fried chicken, sausage ,grits, gravy, eggs fresh cut ham, very excellent. They also have a few attractive women working there! I've only been there for the Sunday Brunch so that is the limit of my review, and it was great stuff.

I've been a regular at Piper's for 3 years or so now and have developed friendships with many other regulars there as well as gotten to know the owners and staff both inside and outside of the businness. This place and these people have been one of the few places that make me feel like I'm at home since I moved to Raleigh in 2004. I eat at Piper's probably 4 times a week at least for lunch or dinner and have had some entrees that were out of this world and some that were just okay. Regardless of what I order one thing always remains consistant...I can walk into that place and see a number of familiar faces and I always leave feeling like my businness is appreciated. I will highly reccomend this restaurant and bar to anyone looking to find a neighborhood place to go to. There's plenty of entertainment going on too if you're like me and would rather stick to north raleigh than go downtown to see a band or something. And for the record, all three of the owners (not to mention half the staff....including the tattooed manager...) are all from north of Massachusetts, so the guy in the last post was way off on that one.

Pros: awesome people, both customers and staff, lots of fun

Cons: parking is tough, kind of smokey at times

anyone from NY or NJ keep away until they fire the manager who is a "north" hater. I over heard her say things about us that make me angry, shes the class-less one with the tattoo. Had a garbage pizza I do mean garbage, if you must eat the shrimp appetizer very good . most food is fair to ok. great bartenders ,owner is cool but blind to whats going on. Could be the best joint around if he got rid of the pimple on the bars face, I mean tattoo.

Pros: good sports 7 out of 10

Cons: manager hates NY/ NJ

I live very close to Pipers and used to go all the time when it was Manchesters. (anyone remember that?). It's hard to park and you have to inhale as you pull into a tight spot. My friends won't go because it's too smoky, that, and there's no beer on tap (what is THAT!). Food is good... love the meatloaf and vodka pasta. Never had a bad waiter or waitress, but the owner (the heavy one) was rude to me once when I tried to cater. They cater, but he acted like he was doing me a favor, and he was real snobby. There are two owners, and the thin one is very nice. I don't go too much anymore only because my spouse can't tolerate the smoke. And everyone sweats in the summer because they don't fix their AC; the staff confessed to us that they die with the heat (87 degrees one night, no lie), but the owner (the fat one) won't spend the money because he says they draw a crowd. So customers, COMPLAIN. Let them know you're uncomfortable. Apparently, the owner cares more about $$$ than his staff's and customer's comfort. Great Sunday brunch, tho.

Pros: Neighborhood feel, Relaxed

Cons: Smokey, no beer on tap!!

Piper's Tavern is always the perfect place to eat when you can't decide where to eat in Raleigh. The food and service are consistently excellent. The menu has enough delicious offerings to allow you to eat there frequently. The pizza and sandwiches are the best in town, and the Shrimp & Grits rival the best from Morehead City, Charleston, or Savannah. Even though it is a tavern, non-drinkers and parents with children are able to dine without the usual intrusion from the bar area.

Pros: Easy access from I-540.

Cons: Tight parking.

We LOVE Piper's Tavern! Everything we have ever tried on the menu has been so tasty --- we love their Philly Steak & Cheese sandwiches ... the crabcakes are fabulous ... meatloaf is outstanding ... Penne Pomodoro is delicious ... and their Chicken Parmesan is superb. And we always see the pizza when we're there, and it looks great too ... but we all love what we normally order so much, that we've yet to try the pizza! The service is quick, waitstaff is friendly ... parking always is just a little tricky at dinnertime, but we never fail to find a spot, and it's worth looping around the building a couple times to park! Two thumbs up for Piper's Tavern ... if you haven't tried it, try it tonight!!!!

Piper's is our favorite local "Cheers" type bar/restaurant to go to unwind. Especially this time of year, the outside seating is wonderful. It's not snooty, and the people are very friendly. The food is awesome too. From the thick, savory bleu cheese dressing, with huge hunks of bleu cheese, try it on the house salad. They have the best wings I've had since moving here from Phoenix. Also, their pizza is thin crusted and delicious, especially their bacon cheeseburger pizza. They have a nice wine selection, and I've found their recommended "monthly" wines superb!

Pros: great food, rsbl $$

Cons: loud sometimes

Went to check out this tavern from the decent reviews from others. We showed up and were seated, and instantly started sweating as the air conditioning was either broken, or set at 85 degrees. The first thing we asked for once the waiter arrived was a beer list, which they DID NOT HAVE. This set off a flag in my mind, thinking "What kind of tavern doesn't have a beer list?" Well, it turns out, not only do they not have a beer list, but they only serve bottled beer. I'm sorry, but if you call yourself a "Tavern," you should have a much larger beer variety than the deli down the street. In addition, the service was poor, and the food was just OK. We will never set food in this place again.

Pros: No beer list., No beer on tap., Poor service

Insider Tips

On The Menu

The tavern serves usual pub fare like nachos and Buffalo wings, but a few tasty alternatives round out the options. The specialty pizzas or blackened shrimp are particularly good options.
