Editorial Review for David's Bridal – by Citysearch Staff

In Short
A chic, sleek boutique, it's not. But those willing to look carefully will likely find a big-time bargain. The staff is helpful and knows the merchandise but doesn't provide extensive one-on-one attention or advice. Stores (particularly on weekends) can be swamped with brides-to-be. David's specializes in beaded satin A-lines and simple lace sheaths that just hit the $500 mark. Most labels are tasteful but of medium-quality: Gloria Vanderbilt, Lady Eleanor, Oleg Cassini and the likes.

My experience with David's Bridal has left a bad taste in my mouth. Wedding planning is stressful enough in itself, and the staff at the Independence store in Charlotte, NC added more fuel to the fire. Luckily I am a simple, prepared, and easy to please person or the experience would have given me a pre-mature heart attack. I already had dresses picked out (bride & bridesmaid) from researching what they offer on the David's Bridal website. Good thing!!! When I got to the store, which was not busy, no one even welcomed my mother, sister, and myself to the store. In fact, we did not see an employee for several minutes. When someone finally acknowledged we were there, we were still left to search on our own. I have heard several bad comments about this store and it's staff, but I really wanted to look at this one dress. However, I did see what people were talking about. The staff is lacking professionalism, class, knowledge of their product, and much more!!! Early July, two of my girls ordered their shoes to match the color of the bridesmaids dresses. While they were ordering their shoes, another bride was picking up shoes that were supposed to be dyed to the color of the dresses. The heels of the shoes were not dyed! They forgot that part! A month passed and we realized we had not heard about the shoes. I called the store, they looked in the system, she confirmed the wedding date as August 31, let me know the shoes are in but they are not dyed. Then she told me they will be ready ON AUGUST 31st. I was silent for a moment and then reminded her that the wedding is ON AUGUST 31st. She assured me they will be ready on the 15th. I called the next day to make sure this employee in fact made the changes she claimed she would do. Beware ladies!!! P.S. I just found out on the DB website the store is relocating. They failed to mention that to me on the phone!

Pros: Lots of different styles, descent prices for the quality

Cons: THE STAFF!!! If the staff is lacking the rest is down hill!

I admit I'm a *bit* of a snob and I would have never thought I'd get my dress @ David's Bridal. I went to try on a bunch of dresses to get an idea of what looked good on me. I stumbled across the PERFECT gown and it was exactly what I was looking for. The best part? It was only $350, which was a tenth of my budget for the gown. Now I will admit - the staff is not exactly the upper crop of society, sorry if that sounds rude. It was a bit noisy and busy (I went on a Saturday), so if you're looking for the "boutiquey" experience this is definitely not it. But the point is, I got my perfect dress here (and a veil and shoes...). I took my dress somewhere else for the alterations. The dress, while perfect for me, is definitely of medium quality. If you're looking for Vera Wang, this isn't it, but who really notices the designer of a bride's gown? I recommend.

Pros: Good selection, lots of styles, unbeatable price

Cons: Service, atmosphere
