Editorial Review for Blue Corn Cafe – by Alice Bumgarner
In Short
A sweet, simple atmosphere: slightly mismatched chairs and tables, a few hanging photographs and Latin music. Easily overheard conversation flows as freely as the sangria, so don't come here for a private tete-a-tete. Here, you'll find comfort food with an accent. Don't miss the bistec Milanese (an exotic country-fried steak)--a thinly sliced flank steak marinated in mojo sauce, breaded and sauteed, then topped with a salsa cruda.

My experience at the Blue Corn Cafe was less than what I would expect from any restuarant. They refused to serve me a glass of water to drink with my meal when I requested it. They said the best they could do was to give me a glass with ice in it and pointed me to the bathroom so I could fill my own glass up. When I go to a restaurant, it is to be served. Clearly, if I wished to get up in the middle of my meal and conversation to serve myself, I would have stayed at home. Also, I don't want to be bringing stuff that is going to be sitting on my dinner table to the bathroom and back. That's just gross! I don't know how this practice is allowed at this restaurant and how it is not a health code violation. But on a brighter note, the food was pretty good.
Cons: Service

Blue Corn is a good choice for moderate priced food which seems increasingly hard to find unless one enjoys eating at chain restaurants. However, due to the current drought in the area the restaurant refuses to serve tap water. I find this distasteful and a cheap shot at a restaurant trying to make money selling bottled water. They could instead add a note to the menu-tap water will just be served on request. I for one won't return to Blue Corn given their new water policy.
