Editorial Review for Sushi Tsune – by Joel Lindsey
In Short
Simple on the outside, the inside gives the impression of a Japanese paper house. Low ceilings, bamboo shades, minimal decoration--yet nothing looks bare. Tsune Oka, a Toyko native who has been slicing sushi for more than 17 years, serves American favorites like California rolls, yellowtail and tuna nigiri as well as ones that aren't as familiar to Westerners, like conch and sea urchin.

Outside looks a little run down but the inside is cute and very clean. Food-wise OMG!! Sushi was wonderful. The tuna almost melts in your mouth. There is a great ratio of fish to rice and they are not stingy on the ginger like other sushi places. The staff was very attentive and the service great. I can't say enough about the sushi. We live 1 1/2 hours away and this is the best reason to make the drive.
Pros: Food and service
Cons: Outside exterior may dicourage people

I continually bring my friends to this place, numerous of which never knew there was a sushi restaurant in between the bp and arby's on the corner of gorman and hillsborough. But when I took my friends and even my very very picky grandparents, they loved it. The place is one of very very very few Japanese restaurants that is actually run by Japanese people. Tsune-san is always behind the sushi bar and always willing to help out the curious college student interested in the Japanese language. The waitresses may seem cold at times, but they definitely warm up after you've been there a couple times and they get used to seeing your face and, in my case, my order. The sushi is always amazing and the menu is diverse and even someone as picky as me can find something good. And just a little hint, I advise the teriyaki chicken-ju lunch box. Oh, and definitely get the miso soup. Otherwise, this place is amazing and Tsune-san is always behind the counter to great you with a smile and a Japanese welcome.
Pros: Athentic Sushi and Food, Authentic, Warm welcome, Ambience, Tsune-san
Cons: Parking
