Editorial Review for East Village Grill and Bar – by Brad Hunter

In Short
Located on one of the more bustling blocks of Hillsborough Street, you'll find the East Village to be mostly inhabited by State students celebrating anything from a Wolfpack victory to the arrival of Friday night. Divided into three sections, you enter through the main bar, descend into a covered patio area with a large-screen TV and emerge onto th back deck overlooking Hillsborough Street. Sandwiches, burgers and salads complement deep-fried appetizers.

Insider Tips

When To Go

Come early on game days. The best seats in front of the TVs go fast.

What To Drink

An icy bucket of beers is a deal: buy five and get one free. Plus, you save a trip or two to the bar.

Save Money

During the summer months, a grill may be set up in the parking lot. Same burgers as inside, but they're a dollar or two cheaper outside.

Where To Sit

With its proximity to campus, daily drink specials and great outdoor area, the East Village patio has established tenure in the neighborhood.

This is a great bar but their bar manager is the worst in Raleigh. I have been going to this bar for many years and I have seen bar managers come and go and this one needs to go. She is often ill-tempered and takes it out on the patrons and the staff. Her name is Jo by the way and she is bringing the place down.

Pros: Food is good, especially the wings

Cons: Bar Manager

I have been going to East Villiage since it opened in 1992. I was a college student then, but I haven't out grown the laid-back atmosphere and fun food. The beer is always cold and the staff is always friendly. Best time for post college grads is after work.
