Editorial Review for NC Seafood Restaurant and Market – by Dana Terebelski

In Short
A factory of a restaurant in which bright fluorescent lights pick up the glint of fish on ice, the loud speaker announces your order, the air smells of fried hushpuppies and the room is packed full like a can of sardines. Flounder, trout, oysters, clams, shrimp, deviled crab, and various fresh catches of the day can be served on a sandwich ($2.50-$5), or as a dinner plate with copious servings of coleslaw, fries, and hushpuppies.

The food is okay here. I don't think the prices are great for what you get/how it is served. Everything comes in styrofoam boxes and cups. I always feel guilty about all of the trash my meal creates when I eat here, and only eat here when a certain coworker of mine insists upon it. Also, I always regret eating here, as afterwards I feel like I am in a coma and my arteries are clenching up. This place definitely puts quantity over quality. I can never eat all of the food I get, which is good. I probably would have a heart attack if I did.

Pros: fried seafood

Cons: everything comes in styrofoam boxes, what is this, the 80's???

Brought Croaker & Flounder from them on 12/23/07. They told me it had just come in that morning (Saturday). They looked & smelled okay, but the taste wasn't so fresh & they clearly had not come in that day as I was told. Be very careful with any fishmonger & ask them specific & detailed questions about when the shipment for the specific fish you are interested in arrived. What day, who the supplier is, ever frozen, if Frozen, FAS (Frozen At Sea), etc. If they get annoyed, go elsewhere.

Pros: Speedy Service

Cons: Fish not as Fresh as they tell you, A bit higher than the fish store down the street.

It's a surreal seafood experience, but tasty, fun and cheap, nonetheless.   See the full editorial review.
