Editorial Review for Top of the Tower – by Brad Hunter
In Short
Twenty stories above Raleigh, the Top of the Tower bar crowns one of downtown's landmark buildings: the circular hotel that was once the Holiday Inn. Badly in need of renovation, new ownership hopes to restore the hotel and bar to respectability as 2004 progresses. In the meantime, the place gets a bit busy on weekends, but is probably only worth a brief stop. The view from Top of the Tower is certainly its most compelling asset.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasThe bar actually only occupies half of the top floor, but the southern exposure is quite interesting. It's fun to go with a friend who knows Raleigh so you can try and pick out the various downtown buildings. Look directly down and you'll see Second Empire--look straight out and you can see well down Hillsborough Street.

That was my first time there and probably my last. The choice of menu items was not great, the service was not far from it. We only had drinks but a good thing because there was only another couple sitting at a table and it was like 30 minutes before they got their food. So all four of us had a couple drinks a piece and left to go somewhere else to eat. I would not recommend this establishment to anybody except to check the view out.
Pros: view, good parking
Cons: service, redo menu

Great View. Great Potential. Need to advertise to get a larger draw. Rarely crowded.
Pros: View, Potential
