Editorial Review for 42nd St. Oyster Bar & Seafood Grill – by Kelly Ferguson
In Short
Although the days when "Dancin' Lucas" entertained diners for a nickel are over, an air of old-fashioned pleasure remains. An Americana theme carries through the enormous black- and white-tiled room decorated with memorabilia. Don't be shocked if the waitstaff, garbed in red suspenders and bow ties, address you as "sir" or "ma'am." The dining room clientele is more conservative, while the Oyster Bar crowd comes alive after work. Oysters, seafood, steaks: The menu features the usual suspects steamed, fried, broiled and grilled. The oysters Rockefeller features plump, large and juicy oysters, which serve up even better on the half shell. While the fried soft shell crabs are succulent, the breading is too heavy--they are better sauteed. The Wahoo is fresh and tender; the grill imparts good flavor. The twice-baked potatoes in a foil boat, while more the rage in 1930, still provide comfort today.

My friends and I were out at 42nd on Thursday, July 24,2008. We were having a good time until it was time to cash out. When I received my tab, I noticed I had been charged for something that I had not ordered. When I brought this to FREDA's attention, she became very irritated. After going back and fourth with Freda, she snatched the bill out of my hand and said "f it". I then proceeded to find the manager and told him about Freda's rude and non-professional behavior. As Freda stood to the side line with her hands on her hips, and her face tighter than a knotted rope, the manager apoligized for her behavior and took care of the bill. It was pointed out to me by my friend who attends 42nd every Thursday, that this was not the first time Freda had done this. My advice to anyone who would like a nice, courteous, professional waitress is to request another waitress if you are seated in Freda's section. And my advice to Freda, is check your attitude, learn how to handle yourself in a professional manner, if not find a NEW JOB, and please get a makeover.
