Editorial Review for Bistro 607 – by Kelly Ferguson
In Short
Bistro 607's bay window and rustic sign might be easy to miss, but diners are greatly rewarded once they find it. Plain wooden chairs are populated by diners who prefer a slower pace. This bistro's quaint atmosphere, personalized service and attention to food make it a place worth revisiting. The menu, based in classic French cooking, issmall, select and changes monthly. As an entree, the venison with juniper gin gastrique is tender and succulent.

My wife and I decided to celebrate her birthday here. After drinks in a newly opened cocktail bar next door (Brooklyn Heights?), we sat down for dinner. Note that Bistro 607 recently changed hands and is now a Spanish restaurant with some French accents. Despite it being Friday evening on Memorial Day weekend, the atmosphere was quiet and romantic. For starters she had a small salad and I had bruschettas (named something else in Spanish). Main courses were chicken skewers (hers) and lamb shank (mine). Wine was Spanish Rioja for $30. The service and food were all excellent, at the highest level we could expect. My wife even said this is the best chicken skewers she ever tasted - given her 25+ years of experience cooking, that can be taken as the highest compliment. The bill came out to just over $100 for 2 including wine and dessert - very reasonable. If you are the type of diner who expects gigantic servings with sides, and measures value by the quantity of food, this place is not for you. But if you appreciate great food in a romantic and friendly setting (European bistro style), run before the secret gets out.
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing

This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. The dishes, desserts, wine, atmosphere, service, location, all good. Ask the wait staff for recommendations, they know what they're talking about. Reservation recommended.
