Editorial Review for Players – by Zach Hanner
The Scene
The club attracts local students and is a favorite of alumni athletes. Nightly drink specials and a huge dance floor make this club a fantastic spot for a night out with the gang. And unlike most modern dance clubs with high-speed techno soundtracks, Players offers up a number of styles of music, from current pop hits to old-school jams. Large-screen televisions are perfect for taking in your favorite sports events.

Don't let the four and a half stars fool you. If you average up the reviews it barely passes three... nor do they have drink specials on the weekend like they advertise. Anyway let me tell you a bit about what you will experience at players. Upon arriving you will go up to the bar and wait 10-15 minutes to be served every time you need a drink. Once you finally get served the drink will be waaaay over priced for what it is and how much liquor they put in it. Good luck trying to find a table or moving to the dance floor because the place is too small for how many people are in there, which is surprising considering its quality (but hey I guess if you're drunk you don't care as much). If you do make it to the dance floor you will find a bunch of stereotypical chapel hill guys trying to grind up on the girls there, who happen to seem really grossed out by this for the most part. Imagine that. At the end of the night you will be lucky if your tab is correct. They do not print itemized receipts for you so you have to take their word. Our tab was approximately 40 dollars more than what it should have been, and when we talked to the bartenders about it we simply got yelled at about "how they where sick of people not paying for their S#*% all the time" and "don't argue with me I work for a living" (don't we all?). Anyway their saving grace is the owner heard the scene and compensated us for the difference (nice but a huge hassle). So this is the place for you if you want to pay too much, get grinded up on all night, and get overcharged and yelled at when the night ends. Approach with caution.
Pros: Reasonable owner. Low cover.
Cons: Way over-priced drinks, Terrible service, Inncorrect reciepts and bartenders who will yell at you

Ive been on nights when we wanted to leave, and nights when we wanted to stay till sunrise. On a good night, there is a great college crowd, but on a bad night, you get a lot of older dunk guys, which is no fun at my age. The place its self is pretty neat. It allows for people to do a few different things-on one end there are booths and lots of chairs where people can just chill and socialize. In the middle between the sitting area is a nice bar- takes a while to get a drink, but its not bad. Then on the other side is the dance floor which I have to say is my favorite. They have means to keep people cool, and while its crowded, its never overbearing. The bathrooms are almost impossible to get into, but it isnt such a huge problem. The staff is great and has never given me any problems, even though I was slightly offended that the first time I went; they guy at the door eyeballed me for a good while before he let me in (I look younger than my age, but its not like I was trying to get in without my ID, or with a fake looking ID). I suppose that is their job though.
Pros: Great ambience, nice design
Cons: The crowd tends to be great... or not, the DJ is the same way. Parking can be kinda hard, and the walk there through the back alley is a little creepy. People tend to be drunk.
