Editorial Review for Little Tokyo – by Dana Terebelski
In Short
Located in a Cary store front, the restaurant is small and casual and has that intimate ambience found wherever diners are really digging in and enjoying. Little Tokyo makes the cheapest and most interesting lunch box specials around. The sashimi, chirashi and sushi combinations range from $7-$10, and are slightly higher for lunch. All meals come with miso soup, gingered salad and green tea.

Being raised in Japan, sushi takes a nice chunk of my life. Which means I'm very picky about the restaurants I visit. Little Tokyo is, by far, the best sushi restaurant I've come across ever since moving to the US. The staff is extremely kind and easy to make friends with and the sushi chefs really know what they're doing. What pleased me the most, was the quality of the sushi/sashimi, it's always fresh. When I learned the old owner, Juno, had left the business to go back to New York, I was afraid they quality and atmosphere would change. However, it's still the Little Tokyo I've come to know and love. Absolutely worth every cent.
Pros: Food, Service, Value
Cons: Lack of space, Crowded on weekends

We went there for the first time two weeks ago when some colleagues recommended going there for lunch, claiming they are really good. I eat sushi a lot and can tell if a fish have taste (fresh) or if it doesn't (frozen). This place didn't impress me at all; the sashimi doesn't have any fresh fish taste and the salad dressing doesn't taste fresh too. The only thing that impressed me was that they gave us two free appetizers on the house, I thought my colleagues ordered them but turned out they are compliments from the restaurant. But the appetizers were quite oily and didn't taste that great either. I don't really want to write a mediocre review for any restaurant but do feel I want to say something since I saw all these raving reviews and don't understand what all the hype is. Maybe I went at the wrong day when the good chef had a day off?
Pros: free appetizers (quite big portion)
Cons: not-as-fresh-as-reviews-claimed fish, mediocre taste
