Editorial Review for Museum of Bad Art – by Julie Fialkow
The Scene
The Museum of Bad Art, founded in 1993, is the only gallery in the world dedicated to "the collection, preservation, exhibition and celebration of bad art in all its forms and in all its glory." Until its move to the Dedham Community Cinema, in 1995, the museum was housed in the basement of a private home.
The Experience
A ballerina with a poodle head and a bowl of fruit stranded in a thunderstorm. The Museum of Bad Art is the MFA on acid. Walls are covered with paintings rescued from trash cans, thrift stores and yard sales--some of the pieces were even donated by the esteemed artists themselves. The paintings--ranging from a mountain scene that looks like it was vomited on in pastel colors to candy Nerds walking up a flight of stairs--are all accompanied by tongue-in-cheek descriptions.

Why would anyone want to venture out to Dedham when they can attend any number of local galleries to see bad art? Sure, once in a while, something comes through that's good, even great such as that you find at the African American Masters Artists in Residency in JP or the African Winter gallery (and no, I'm not African American, just an appreciator of great art). But overall, it seems the fad of being an artist has everyone jumping on the bandwagon, and most should get off.
Pros: None
Cons: Needless waste of time

well, this isnt so much of a review, as it is a comment. I think this place sounds great and I am excitied about going one day. A lot of people that I know would rather see something original and different. Great idea!:)
