Editorial Review for The Franklin Hotel – by Laura Rudolph
In Short
Located in the heart of downtown Chapel Hill, this 67-room boutique hotel offers all the extras: wall-mounted LCD TVs, in-room spa services, private balconies, turndown services and complimentary newspapers. Relax with a cocktail at the lobby bar and listen to the jazz tunes on the baby grand piano. Then head upstairs and dream the night away on 740-thread count sheets and your pick of one of five kinds of pillows.

We stayed there for our anniversary. The staff at the front desk provided us with champaign free of charge after learning about our special ocassion. My wife and I were very impressed with the decor. The rooms are impeccable and elegant. The bar, which is named after the owner was very romantic. The bartender was extremely polite. We were granted a late check out, which was very accommodating. It was truly refreshing to stay at this beautiful hotel. I always stay at the Marriott, but this was by far a more luxurious experience. For all the guys out there, your significant other will definitely appreciate this pleasant surprise. I highly recommend a balcony room!!
Pros: Service, ambience, parking, proximity to dining
Cons: noise from outside

I wanted to surprise my fiance with a night at the Franklin and dinner at Talulla's, where we met. Vanessa at the front desk was very nice on the phone, and when I arrived to prepare the room, the gentleman working at the front desk was extremely nice, efficient and accomodating. He offered to make reservations for us at the restaurant, made sure we had champagne glasses and was very understanding in the morning about our request for a later checkout. The front desk person during the night was also very accomodating to our requests. The decor and comfort of the hotel are fabulous - we came away wanting to employ some of the same styles in our new house! The sheets are amazing, the bed is to die for, as are the fluffy towels and robes. You can even special order the type of pillow that you prefer. Our room had a large private balcony overlooking Franklin Street. Overall, we had a perfectly wonderful experience and can't wait for another special occasion to do it again! This place is all class.
