Editorial Review for An Restaurant – by Kristine Forrest Seawell
In Short
Soaring ceilings, rich colors and a romantic outdoor terrace with a fireplace set a dramatic scene at this swanky Cary restaurant, but it's the eclectic menu that truly excites. Chef Michael Chuong uses Asian ingredients and French flavors in his dishes; highlights include the Vietnamese crepe with shrimp and roasted pork and the Taro crab cake with fiery wasabi remoulade. Sushi lovers have plenty of specialties to sample, but the raw bar may be equally as tempting.

My husband and I visited An for the second time this week. Our first experience was good. The service was great, the atmosphere is wonderful and the food was good. On this second trip, the service was still very good but the food was not good. My husband ordered the taster's menu and out of the five items he was served, only two were good; one was dessert which was prepared at the table by a staff member. This menu item is expensive and the descriptions are not very clear. One of the items he received was a fish jaw that was one of the worst things I have ever tasted, very fishy and salty. I ordered a Vietnamese wedding soup that was basically a really bad egg drop soup with whole quail eggs in it. All of the items that we had were too salty and left a bad after taste which lasted until the next day. We have not gone there for just sushi, so I cannot comment on that, but I would be very careful ordering from their regular menu and would ask for detailed info on the items before ordering. My husband and I like to try new and different food items and do not mind spending a lot for a good dinner, but this last experience at An's was not worth it. As this was my husband's birthday, this was very disappointing for us.

I've been to AN several times, for business and pleasure. Always a great experience and the food has never disappointed. The server santiago is very helpful and has turned me on to some of the best sushi around. Somewhat hard to get into but well worth the wait. And if you just want a quick bite and drinks the bar is great . Try the asian progression and tuna tartare apps, great with their amazing beverage selection!
Pros: Fresh modern decor, killer seafood dishes, fantastic wine/beverage list
Cons: Pricey, reservations needed
