Editorial Review for Bon's Home Cookin' – by Kristine Forrest Seawell
In Short
Bon has clearly moved beyond her role as "Mama Dip's daughter" to become a beloved restaurateur in her own right. While Bon's BBQ promoted her to celebrity-cook status, her second venture, Bon's Home Cookin', builds on that success. Fans of Southern fare will love the large space while finding comfort in familiar foods: barbecue, fried chicken, country-fried steak. Desserts are just as sinful; no true Southerner could leave without a slice of sweet potato pie.

I am always satisfied with the food at Bons, it really is authentic southern soul food. My favorites are the ribs and the smothered pork chop and for sides I recommend the fried green tomatoes and mac n cheese (really creamy). The desserts I've tried have all been delicious as well. And always ask for hush puppies (sooo good)! I don't know what the rants about Bon (the owner) are all about. She's always been funny and friendly when I've gone. But I do agree that the service there is not top notch. On a different note the restaurant is always very clean and the parking is good for a Franklin St. location.
Pros: THE FOOD, cleanliness, parking
Cons: service is so-so

As the previous customer mentioned, the service is lousy. A member of my party (3 people) did not like the green beans and they refused to exchange it with another item. Trust me the bowl of green beans was very small so it could not be much of a monetary or waste issue. The fish sandwich was great and the chicken was fair. I decided to give the resturant another chance and brought others to the resturant shortly thereafter. BIG MISTAKE! Before our party of 5 could get in the door good, Bon (the owner) was telling us to close the door because the A/C was on. This did not leave a good impression on the new customers. Although I had already been there 30 minutes prior, the owner asked in a very rude way if I was eating or not. It did not seem like that was any concern for the seating arrangements. Her daughter was our waitress and her attitude was just o.k. She tried a little better than her mom. The owner literally stared at one of the members in our party like she had a disease or something. Again, the service was lousy and the cooking was mediocre. When I read the owner's mom was Mama Dip, I could not believe it. This resturant is no representation of Mama Dip's resturant which is superb in service and food.
Pros: Decent Food, Good Parking, Clean Resturant
Cons: Very Poor Customer Service, Very Rude
