I'm a fan simply because it's close to the Duke campus and the ambience is nice. The baristas know their stuff, the music is pretty good, and the art on the walls is done by local artists. It's also a plus that the coffees and teas are eco-friendly. But it can be crowded on the weekends, it's sometimes too dark to see well in the late afternoon, and it can be a little over-priced.
Pros: location, environmentally conscious, good ambience
Cons: a bit overpriced, sometimes crowded

Driade of Chapel Hill is without a doubt the best coffee availabe in NC if not the US. Shade Tree Coffee surprised me with the expert baristas and tasty espressos. They know how to make good coffee and their baked goods at stocked by Guglhupf, just like Driade. Its ambiance isn't quite up to par with Driade, but since it's 5 minutes away instead of 20, I'll take it.
Pros: baristas who know, great baked goods
Cons: not much room
