Editorial Review for Yancy's Juke Joint – by Kristine Forrest Seawell
In Short
The jazz-infused hotspot that once drew crowds to City Market is now heating up the scene on Fayetteville Street. The space serves dual purposes: a restaurant for diners who can't get enough of the Po' Boy sandwiche or the Cajun-fried oysters - and a bar for the late-night crowd that craves regular doses of sax and piano. The grey booths lining the room offer plenty of space for large parties, but most of the action happens at Yancy's marble bar.

Saw one of the best bands there about a month ago - Zydecopious. Fun zydeco music and everything they played made you want to get out of your seat and dance!! They even made the food taste better! Nice place and nice folks. Hope they keep up the live music. Otherwise, the place feels a bit stuffy - like you're the only one who doesn't know everyone else. I see the band's coming back for Mardi Gras. I can hardly wait until 2/17!! I'll be the one dancing! - that is, ONE of the ones!!

I was pretty excited when I walked into the place. Obviously, a lot of money was thrown into it because it is a good looking place. The bar is beautiful and the huge TVs are great. Unfortunately, I do not think the same attention to detail was used in developing their entrees. We had the crab cakes as a starter which were barely warm and tasted like they came out of a gordon's fisherman box. I had the jambalya for my main entree and I think they make it from a zataran's packet because it was about as bland and as boring as could be. My friend ended up having a pulled pork sandwich. She said it was good, not great and the thing was super soggy. We ended up skipping dessert. Overall, this place woul be a good place to get a drink I think, but for dinner, I would skip it. It just wasn't very good. Oh and the service! The service was just weird. Our waiter went missing everytime our glasses were empty and seemed to be on something. Everytime we asked for another round he seemed to space out and forget for about 15 minutes, wandered around looking lost. It was just weird.
Pros: Good looking place
Cons: Food & service
