Editorial Review for Goat Bar – by Brad Hunter
The Scene
"Come and hang with the herd" is the motto of this unlikely little bar at Western Boulevard and Powell Drive. You'll find the herd to be unpredictable in this shoebox-sized hangout. That may be the coolest part--people are the draw here. The decor is minimal, even a bit tacky (a sunglasses-wearing groundhog is a highlight), but the setup is fine for socializing. As it gets smoky, the airy front lounge with couches is something of a refuge.
The Draw
Depending on the night, Goat patrons may be college students, local bar staff, hippies or neighborhood good ol' boys. Part of the diversity derives from the fact that one of the owners put in some years at Goodnight's and the Old Bar, making a lot of friends along the way. After work tends to feature an older Budweiser-and-cigarettes clientele; if you're looking for a sizable crowd, later is better.

If you go to the Goat and you're of a different kind than the majority of the people there, they will make you feel unwelcome. Go to the Goat if you want to spend your weekend time off with rude snobby weirdos who give you really bad service and keep an eye on you if you look different from the people there. Simply put, the Goat only wants your money and your business if you look right. I just wish they would put up a sign saying what's on their minds and who they are not willing to serve and who they are.

I agree with Gatorelena; the "Slant Eyed" Chinese New Year promotion was both offensive and hurtful. I'm not Asian; I'm a white woman, but there is _no_ _way_ that I would ever give my business to a bar that encourages people to think of ethnicity & culture as a costume. And I _definitely_ wouldn't want to hang out at a bar with anybody who thought that that was cool.
