Editorial Review for Udupi Cafe – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Unlike typical Indian restaurants that adorn their walls with lavish portraits of rajahs and statues of Ganesh, Udupi is contemporary with modern track lighting, abstract art and waiters in white shirts and ties. Wrap-around seating helps cater to small and large groups, with individual tables beyond elbow reach of your neighbor. The appetizers are purely vegetarian, flaky samosa are stuffed with potatoes and peas, entrees include crepes (dosai) and pancakes (uthappam) with fillings.

Went on a Thursday afternoon for the buffet. There was no indication anywhere of the price, which ended up being a little over $20 for 2. There was a fairly limited selection of poorly seasoned, unimaginative food. It was bland, even for a western palate, bring on the spice!!! I will not be going back.
Pros: Easy to get a table
Cons: overpriced, underseasoned, poorly executed cooking

Our friends from DC were visiting us, and we wanted them to have a nice authentic South Indian food. I had heard about quality food being served at this restaurant, so after a whole day of fun we visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening. There was about 20-25 min wait before we could get in, and once seated the waiter was gone. He came back after 10 min and took our order and we asked him to make the food little spicy. To our amazement we found that all the food was sprinkled with red chili powder and black pepper. The food was so horrible that we had to argue with the waiter, but he responded that the spicy food is like this. That was a horrible experience. I think that the food is already been prepared and kept and they just warm it up and bring it out to the customers and if someone asks for little bit change in the main course they just add something on the top and bring it out. I wont recommend anybody going there. The food was horrible as was their service. The price was also too much comparing to all other cuisines around the area.
Pros: There are none
Cons: Everything
