Editorial Review for The Streets at Southpoint – by Kristine Forrest Seawell

In Short
Part village, part sprawling mega-mall, the Streets at Southpoint dominates Durham's shopping scene with a host of upscale stores. The architecture sets this mall apart from its predecessors: Each shop has a storefront resembling an individual building, giving shoppers the feeling of walking through a quaint little town.

Fantastic mall! I have never come across an unfriendly employee at the mall (I can't speak for kiosk employees as I do not shop those). Everyone is helpful. The mall is always clean and free from people who loiter. On Saturday nights there are a lot of teens but security is in full force and I rarely see them loitering for long. Weekday mornings is a mom and tot haven. The play area is mostly clean. My only complaint is that they do not enforce the rules always. Sometimes there are kids as tall as I am playing there and that is very dangerous for little tots. The play area is designated for smaller kids. Great restaurants abound - Firebirds, California Pizza Kitchen, etc. Unfortunately the eateries in the food court is very repetitive. There are 4 places that serve Chinese type buffet food. I highly recommend Five Guys for a great burger and fries. This is by far the best mall in the area.

Pros: Many nice restaurants to choose from, clean, safe.

Cons: Repetitive food venues in food court, overcrowded kids' play area

I was very worried moving from the D.C. area with it's great shopping and awesome resturants to the Raleigh/Durham area which I knew little about. But, I was so happy to find a wonderful mall with good food near by in the Triangle area. I live three miles from the Streets at Southpoint off of Grandale and love it! This area and mall are one of the best places to be... great shopping, good food, convience to the airport, Duke, Chapel hill, now all we need is a good theatre for some broadway shows. I can dream... Seriously this is a great place to shop or just people watch. Parking and getting out of the mall can be a bit crazy at peek times which is a mild complaint. By the way, you have to check out "Tropical Smoothie" at the mall... tell them Tracy sent you---I have a addiction to that place .

Pros: Everything.

Cons: Getting out of the mall and parking during peak times.
