In Short
With wildly colorful interior, this pizza joint gives the Glenwood Avenue crowd a casual place to gather. Those who arrive early can grab a table on the front patio flanking the street. On the menu: Gourmet slices without pretension. Bite into a slice of white pizza, topped with olive oil sauce, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes and cheese, or their signature Mellow Mushroom house classic, loaded with cheese, meats and trimmings. You'll savor the chewy crust.

The one good thing I can say about the Mellow Mushroom is that the atmosphere is terrific. The outdoor patio on Peace Street is prime for people-watching. I just wish the food was as good. The crust is bland and flavorless and the selection of pizzas is that same as you would find in any pizza joint. The worst part of the experience was the service. Our waitress was more concerned with chatting with friends than to bother getting our drinks and then brought us the wrong pizza and gave ours away, so we had to wait for another pizza! If the food was better, this might have been overlooked as a waitress having a bad day, but coupled with disappointing food, it did not inspire a return visit.
Pros: Great seating
Cons: bland food, bad service

Since my office is down the street we have been frequent customers of the Raleigh location since they opened and always had a great experience. They have the best patio and pizza in Raleigh. The pizza is old school, hand tossed and cooked on a stone plus they have a lot of ingredients to choose from. I am surprised with the few bad reviews since we go there so often and never had a problem. The place is always packed so I am sure someone may not get the service they expect, but they must be doing something right.
Pros: Pizza, patio, beer selection
Cons: usually a wait
