Editorial Review for Falls Lake Recreation Area – by Tom Normanly

In Short
If you're into camping, point your sleeping bag in the direction of this dynamite urban escape for city slickers. Each campsite has a grill and picnic table. Showers and restrooms are available. And you won't find a better place to paddle. Falls Lake is great for a romantic lakeside picnic for you and your honey or an all-out family reunion. The park has covered picnic areas for larger groups, but you must reserve in advance. Falls Lake also has plenty of bass, bluegill and crappie. Just be sure to steer clear of the swimmers.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

Stay on marked trails. Beautiful vistas can turn into steep drop-offs. Never walk to the edge of a cliff face, and always hike with a friend.

Large campsites, great fishing (even if you don't catch anything :), clean facilities, dog friendly, and only a few minutes from 'civilization'. A great weekend getaway.

Pros: Nature, swimming, boating

Cons: Occasionally campers nearby can be inconsiderate with noise or trash.

I love this park because it just has so much to offer. There is a playground for the kids(which is the main reason we started going there) and so much more. We have enjoyed the hiking trails and reading the informative brochures posted about. There is an area not far away for fishing if your in the mood for that-we watched kids catching catfish one day. Also, if you want to play on a soccer field there are a couple of those to take advantage of as well.

Pros: great location, lots to do, no cost

Cons: trail markings, trail lengths

Catch a crappie, camp in style and take in some cliff-top vistas.  See the full editorial review.
